Within Sprout all purchases and sales are done using an Item.  An item always has at least one unit of measure.  Many times there are multiple units of measure.  Sprout converts units of measure based on an equivalency.  This can be either more or less than one allowing units of measure to be larger or smaller than the default item.  Items also are mapped to customers and vendors facilitating EDI transactions.
