Transportation Methods define how a customer order will be delivered or picked up. They are used during sales order entry to indicate the delivery arrangement for the order.

The Transportation Method field is optional and may be left blank if it is not needed for operational or reporting purposes.

Transportation Methods are commonly used to distinguish between orders that will be:

  • Delivered by the company
  • Picked up by the customer
  • Shipped using a third-party carrier

In many implementations, Transportation Methods are also used for EDI coding. When orders are received or transmitted through EDI, the transportation method can be mapped to the appropriate EDI code to indicate how the order will be shipped or fulfilled..
